In the previous episode conversation with Andrea Stunz, she identified Resilience as an important value of leadership. Today I unpack more about Why Resilience in on the Leadership Values list.
There is a great deal of research supporting the value of developing resilience in your life, your work and your faith. For over 30 years The Search Institute has studied how resilience is built in the lives of children and youth. I learned of their work while I was working as a professional educator over twenty years ago. The research establishes the need for 40 Developmental Assets to be present in the life of a young person in order for them to develop the muscle of resilience.
What exactly is Resilience? The ability to get up after life knocks you down; not denying the hard things, the setbacks, but learning from them and moving forward. Whether the setback comes in life or in your career or in your faith, resilience is a valuable muscle to develop.
Here is a simple article that highlights some practical steps you can take when you are investing in yourself or your people in the work of developing the value of resilience.
